My approach to dance education

Teaching Philosophy

I believe effective dance education balances discipline, technical excellence, and encouragement. My goal as an instructor is to create a training environment where dancers feel challenged, supported, and motivated to reach their full potential. I strive to hold high standards while fostering a classroom culture built on respect, accountability, positivity, and growth.

While I enjoy teaching dancers of all ages, I especially love working with pre-teens, teens, seniors, and collegiate dancers as they begin refining their artistry, technique, and personal confidence. These are such formative years in a dancer’s training, and I value the opportunity to help students strengthen not only their movement quality, but also their mindset, work ethic, and self-belief.

My classes emphasize strong technical foundations, versatility, and intentional training. Drawing from my background in ballet, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, hip hop, tap, pom, and acro, I encourage dancers to become adaptable artists who can move confidently across multiple styles. I believe exposure to diverse training creates stronger, more well-rounded performers and helps dancers develop greater body awareness, musicality, and performance quality.

I also prioritize injury prevention and dancer wellness in my teaching. I believe students should understand the purpose behind their training, whether that means learning proper alignment, active stretching, conditioning, or safe progressions for skills-based work. Especially in technique and acro-based classes, I emphasize preparation, body awareness, and safe execution as essential parts of growth.

Above all, I encourage my students to approach challenges with patience and resilience. I frequently remind dancers to replace “I can’t” with “not yet,” reinforcing the idea that progress is earned through consistency, practice, and willingness to learn. My goal is for dancers to leave my class feeling stronger, more knowledgeable, and more confident in both their abilities and potential.
