A journey in movement
Anastyn McVay is a dancer, educator, choreographer, and performer based in Northern California. She is graduating with her Bachelor of Arts in Dance at California State University, Sacramento, where her studies have included ballet, modern, tap, jazz, Afro-Caribbean, dance composition, improvisation, dance science, somatics, and creative dance for children. Her training is grounded in both technical excellence and artistic versatility, shaped by years of study under a wide range of influential instructors and mentors.
With over 19 years of dance training and performance experience, Anastyn has developed a strong foundation across multiple styles, including ballet, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, hip hop, pom, tap, pointe, and acro. She trained competitively for 13 years at Dancer’s Edge and has performed extensively through competitive dance, collegiate dance, concert work, and athletic performance settings. Her performance credits include the Sacramento State Dance Team, University Dance Company, and various choreographic and concert works at Sacramento State.
As an educator, Anastyn is passionate about cultivating positive, disciplined, and supportive learning environments where dancers can grow both technically and personally. She currently teaches at Mirror Image Dance Company and has worked nationally as a staff member and head instructor for Universal Dance Association, leading summer camps, teaching technique classes, and mentoring dancers of all ages. She also previously served as Varsity Dance Coach at Sierra Pacific High School, where she coached and choreographed competitive routines while fostering confidence, teamwork, and leadership among her students.
Anastyn’s choreographic work emphasizes musicality, precision, storytelling, and stylistic versatility. Whether in the studio, classroom, or on stage, she is committed to helping dancers discover confidence in their abilities, appreciation for the technical craft of dance, and joy in movement as both an art form and a form of self-expression.
